La Rural

Sunday, after church, we decided to head over to the convention center called La Rural for the 2010 Expo Rural. WOW! It is basically the Houston Livestock Show for Argentina. There were all kinds of booths: animal health/tack products, food and wine vendors, leather goods, and of course all the latest in farm implements. It was amazing! The show cattle were just awesome and it was so neat to see the similarities between our stock shows and theirs. (I even saw Sullivan show cattle products for sale--those who show know the brand) We didn't get to see the stock show since the cattle weren't scheduled to show 'till Monday, but they did have the horse shows going on. The arena is outside, and of course, it was raining so we didn't get to watch this time. We did, however, get to see some of the horses waiting in the back alley and who could resist an adorable little girl with admiring eyes....Yes, the Argentines love children, so Adalyn got to ride! She was in heaven! The horses were gorgeous with ornate silver reins and breast collars. We had a great time and can't wait to go back next year!

Las Violetas

I had to post about this place! I only took 2 pictures-one didn't turn out so well- the day we went (about 3 weeks ago) because we WILL go back. The pastries are well worth the wait and the day we were there we really didn't know what to get. So, we ordered hamburgers and Adalyn had a sandwich. While we waited for our order, the place got so crowded--it was around 4:00 p.m. and the waiters started bringing out these HUGE trays filled with sandwiches and cakes that looked "to die for". Well, obviously it was tea time and I can not wait to go back for an actual tea. They had excellent shortbread cookies and I promised Adalyn we would get some to take home. When we walked over to the confiteria (bakery) side we were standing shoulder to shoulder with people waiting to buy all kinds of baked goods. (of course they don't beat a good kolache but hey...we're in Argentina) We patiently waited about 15-20 minutes 'till they called our number and walked away with heart shaped chocolate dipped shortbread cookies (not as good as Scotland's shortbread but a close 2nd) and the BEST medialunas (croissants) that we have had here so far. Anyhow, they place has huge stained glass windows, an antique stairwell, and antique bar...just beautiful! As we left, the line to get into the cafe part was out the door and around the block! La Feria de los Libros (The Book Fair)

Mom and I headed out this week with our Spanish teacher and her son, Oliver to the "Feria de los Libros". There were wall to wall books and Oliver and I had a great time! We colored, practiced our art skills on the smart board, read a few books, AND I even got to meet Doki the dog from Discovery Kids! (not sure what his "English" name is) I got a balloon from a clown, held on to it the entire time and then ended up popping it in the car on the ride home. I was REALLY sad and asked mom to put all the pieces back together. Other than my balloon popping we had a great time and can't wait to do more adventures!

THE BIG 3

We had a GREAT day for my 3rd birthday and Daddy's...um, we won't put his age on here! That morning Daddy and I came downstairs to find the kitchen all decorated for our birthday. We had special pancakes and opened presents. We had plans to go to the zoo but it rained so we headed over to Benihana for lunch. I love watching the chef cook and trying out the chopsticks. Mom and Dad saved the best for last....when we got home there was a present on the stairwell. I opened it up to find a new helmet. My reply, "I can take this to Texas." We all went upstairs and I found a brand new pink and purple bike in the window! I rode it all around the kitchen that evening but had to wait 'till Sunday to take it for a spin outside. Easter 2010

We had a great Easter! Mom and I dyed eggs on Friday while waiting for Dad to get home from his latest business trip. On Saturday, we went to a community Easter egg hunt at one of the churches here, I set up my Easter nest to make sure the Easter Bunny had a nice place to leave my goodies (just in case he came by), and helped Mom bake a carrot cake. On Sunday, we woke up and low and behold, the Easter Bunny came to see me! I checked out all my goodies, got dressed for church, and then had BBQ and my very own Easter egg hunt in the back yard. We had to put Bella in the quincho because she kept trying to eat the eggs! It was a wonderful Easter weekend!
